Cutlery - Eating tools for more pleasure

Even if cutlery is first and foremost a practical aid to eat, enjoyment increases with the quality of the cutlery. That's why you should place the highest value on these criteria when buying cutlery: an attractive design because, as we all all know, the eye eats with you and a stylishly decorated table is doubly welcoming. High-quality material and, of course, a comfortable feel and a perfect grip

The high-quality cutlery sets from uccellino are part of a modern dining culture. Our classical 16-piece LUXXO cutlery set is suitable for four people and includes four knives, forks, spoons and coffee spoons each. Clear and discreet lines, soft edges and balanced, reduced proportions underline the pure character of the cutlery. The oval cutlery handles fit comfortably in the hand. With the unusual colors in vintage look, the cutlery can be added to the variety of tableware services.

The special treatment of the surface of cutlery GUSTO is shown in a rustic black handle. Forged from one piece of stainless steel, the menu cutlery guarantees a long service life. In addition to the five-piece set, cheese knives, butter knives and dessert cutlery are available in a matching design. The cutlery is ideal for everyday use.

Cutlery - Material, colour & shape

As cutlery is one of the most used kitchen utensils, it is definitely worth investing in a high-quality cutlery set. Whether stainless steel, gold, bamboo or other materials - cutlery with good workmanship will stay with you for a long time, so you should choose it carefully. In addition to the material, the design, colour and ergonomics also play an important role in the choice. With the right care, a high-quality cutlery set can also be passed on to future generations. Before buying, the design of already existing serving dishes should also be taken into mind, so that the dishes and cutlery will harmonise well on the dining table. The choice of cutlery material can also influence the use, care and storage.

Stainless steel is a popular material in addition to silver and titanium and always looks timeless, noble and modern. Look out for the 18/10 mark on stainless steel cutlery, which indicates that it contains eighteen percent chrome and ten percent nickel. This stainless steel is of high quality and is mostly dishwasher-safe, acid-resistant, scratch- and cut-resistant and rustproof. The smooth surface is antibacterial and dirt-resistant and therefore allows for optimal hygiene in the household. Hard material like stainless steel makes the cutlery less susceptible to damage, while softer metals like silver are much easier to damage. Stainless steel is therefore durable and particularly suitable for everyday use. Lighter cutlery made of plastic or melamine, for example, is less stable in shape but is ideal for camping trips or other outdoor activities.

You can also match the colour of your cutlery set to the existing interior items or select them accordingly. The uccellino cutlery is available in black, copper, gold and silver in a vintage style. Silver looks classic and black cutlery looks modern, simple and clear. Cutlery designs in gold and copper are a glamorous highlight on any festive table. Unusual cutlery colours can also be used to complement tableware with a unique handmade character. In addition to the visual appearance, good handling and comfort are important. The design cutlery from uccellino feels good in the hand, is well balanced in its weight and is not too light or too heavy.

Cleaning & Care

A high-quality cutlery set does not have to be saved for special occasions, but can also be used for everyday use. Everyday cutlery should nevertheless be as robust, rust-free and tasteless as possible.
Always clean the cutlery after use with a cloth or sponge under lukewarm water. The use of natural dishwashing detergent is particularly advisable for heavy and greasy soiling. Our stainless steel cutlery can also be cleaned in the dishwasher. However, using the dishwasher can cause stains to appear on your cutlery over time and the lacquer can be damaged. Make sure to take the cutlery out and dry it after washing in the dishwasher. A cutlery box is useful for neat storage and keeping after drying.
Tip: Make sure that only stainless crockery is in the dishwasher, otherwise rust can adhere to the cutlery. To further prevent flash rust, a piece of aluminium foil can be placed in the dishwasher.

Function and applications of cutlery

Table cutlery

Cutlery is placed at your seat for each person. This refers to the tableware with which food is eaten. Classic cutlery consists of a knife, a fork with four tines, a soup spoon and a teaspoon. Sometimes a small dessert or cake fork with three prongs is also included.

  • Coffee and dessert cutlery
A teaspoon is suitable for stirring coffee and tea, for eating desserts and is also used as a measure for portioning ingredients and spices. On a small cake fork, the left tine is usually wider and sturdier so that the cake can be cut more easily by pressure. A latte spoon is a long-handled spoon for stirring drinks that are served in narrow, tall glasses.
  • Fish cutlery
A fish knife looks special with its wide blade without an edge. The blunt knife allows you to cut fish without cutting bones. As an alternative to the fish knife, two forks can be used. A fish fork is a normal-sized dinner fork with a short, wide front part and four widely spaced tines, through which the liquid from the fish can drip off more easily.
  • Children's cutlery
Cutlery for children is generally smaller than regular table cutlery, easy to handle and also suitable for children who are just learning to eat by themselves. Each piece of cutlery is designed not to damage gums, lips or tongue and offers maximum safe handling. The fork has rounded tips and wide prongs. The knife is also rounded at the tip and the blade is not sharpened.

Serving cutlery

In contrast to table cutlery, serving cutlery is used for serving and portions of food. This includes salad servers, cake servers, sauce spoons, jam and honey spoons or sugar spoons.

  • Butter knife
A butter knife has a smooth edge with a rounded and often wide tip. This makes it suitable for taking up butter and spreading it on a slice of bread.
  • Cheese knife
Cheese knives have cut-outs in the blade which ensure that the cheese does not stick to the knife when it is cut. The partially serrated blade with its two points makes it easier to spear the cheese. A cheese knife is used to cut equally sized slices of cheese.
  • Steak knife
A steak knife is specially made for chopping meat. It is a long knife with a narrow, sharp, pointed blade that is slightly curved upwards, which is also available with a saw or serrated edge. The sharp blades mean that the meat fibres are not torn during mincing, but cut precisely. It can also be used for other dishes, such as pizza.
  • Salad servers
Salad servers usually consist of a long handled spoon and a fork - but sometimes two spoons are used. The spoon has a large scooping surface with which salad and sauce can be individually portioned. The fork usually has several prongs, which are perfect for both gripping and draining. Due to its length, the cutlery can also be used for deeper salad bowls.

Cutlery Set - Size & scope

Choose the size of the set according to the number of people in your household and your preferences for inviting friends. Depending on how many guests are invited and how many courses you would like to serve, the more cutlery is needed.  In the basic version, a 4-piece cutlery set for one person consists of a dinner knife, a soup spoon, a fork and a teaspoon. A five-piece set also includes a smaller dessert or cake fork. For four people, choose a 16-piece set. A 24-piece or 30-piece cutlery set is suitable for six people. If you like to invite guests and serve several courses on festive days, choose a cutlery set for twelve people. In general, designer cutlery sets from a particular series can usually be extended with additional products at a later time.

Cutlery Knigge

As in many situations in everyday life, you can learn a lot when it comes to handling cutlery. We will tell you the most important rules - the basics of cutlery handling - when using knives, forks, spoons and the like.

For a menu with several courses, multi-part cutlery sets are used. Since external cutlery pieces are used first, the cutlery should also be laid out in the appropriate order. The soup spoon and knife are used with the right hand and are therefore placed on the right side of the plate. The edge of the knife points towards the plate. The forks lie on the left, with the tines facing upwards. Bread plates and bread knives are on the outside of the left-hand row of cutlery. Smaller pieces of cutlery for dessert are placed above the plate, with the cake fork with the handle to the left and the handle of the dessert spoon to the right. An exemplary cutlery arrangement is shown in the following diagram:

If possible, you should avoid taking anything from the central bowls, pans and pots with your own cutlery or gesturing with the cutlery. After use, the cutlery is not placed on the tablecloth to avoid soiling it. When the meal is finished, the knife and fork are placed parallel to each other on the plate to signal to the host that one is finished.
